Depression, High Blood Pressure, Fatigue? Take a BREATH!
We?re hearing and learning more about it. The rise of OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) in communities is at a staggering high. It?s estimated nearly people have OSA, a disorder which causes the breath to cease during sleep, some experiencing up to a minute without breath. What?s more dangerous than actually having the disorder? The side effects associated with OSA span from depression, high blood pressure, fatigue, higher risk of heart attack and stroke, memory loss, as well as irritability and even death.
With OSA awareness becoming more prevalent, doctors and companies like SGS are taking a stand on the fight against OSA. Advanced technology, education, in office training and leading industry seminars-Sleep Group Solutions is helping dentists treat patients with OSA. Doctor partnerships, such as that with Dr. Tache from Snoring & Sleep Apnea Treatment Centers help to raise awareness and lower the effects and side effects of OSA. ?When we help our patients breathe without obstruction, we see vast improvements in their health. Those suffering with symptoms of depression, anxiety, fatigue and blood pressure problems seem to drastically decline, if not disappear.? Says Dr. Tache on successfully treating OSA to overcome other health issues.
Like many dentists, Dr. Tache began to incorporate Sleep Medicine after patients began to express problems with their CPAP. He noticed a strong correlation between patients with TMD problems (orofacial and TMJ pain) and disorders of sleep; it compelled him to seek additional education on the matter, and he attended a Sleep Group Solutions Sleep Medicine Seminar.
Dr. Tache has treated many patients with OSA. One patient in particular proved the severity of OSA and its side effects, if remained untreated. ?A woman was referred to me for TMJ. She had been previously diagnosed with Bi-Polar Depression, and mentioned awakening with severe jaw, head, and neck pain. After treating her with appliances, she would get a little better, but still in pain and experiencing even more uncontrollable depression.? Dr. Tache went on to suggest the patient seek a sleep study, as there had to be an undiagnosed sleep and breathing problem. The patient complied, and the results proved she had OSA (sever level). She was urgently treated by Dr. Tache with advanced technology (Eccovision Airway Acoustics: SGS). ?This treatment brought her apnea down to safe levels, and nearly eliminated her depression as well as extreme fatigue. She later told me her depression was most likely due to her severe untreated obstructive sleep apnea. She is a most grateful patient.? Dr. Tache explains.
Thanks to the efforts of Sleep Group Solutions and dental partnerships such as Dr. Tache, the treatment of OSA is more readily available, and dentists across the country are stepping up to help those in need.
