Sleep Apnea Patients are More Likely to Suffer From Osteoporosis, According to a New Study by the National Health Insurance Program

Dental Sleep Medicine education company, Sleep Group Solutions, instructs dentists on implementing a Sleep Apnea protocol which includes identifying, diagnosing with physicians, and treatment plans including Oral Appliance Therapy.  Upcoming live lectures include Nashville, Salt Lake City, and Chicago.

(Miami, FL)  According to the National Sleep Foundation,  more than 80 million Americans snore.  Snoring, along with high blood pressure, hypertension, and daytime fatigue, are signs you may have sleep apnea.  A recent study performed by the National Health Insurance Program now adds Osteoporosis to the list of diseases connected with OSA.  Dental Sleep Medicine education company, Sleep Group Solutions, teaches dentists how to identify and treat Sleep Apnea during 2 day lectures.  Upcoming lecture locations include Nashville, Salt Lake City, and Chicago.

Dentists across the US are attending dental continuing education courses, which teach dental professionals how to screen and treat snoring and sleep apnea, through Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT).  Dental sleep medicine expert, Dr. Barry Freydberg, was not surprised to read the recent study pertaining to Osteoporosis and OSA.  “I am not surprised at how the constant drop in oxygen and the other issues with fragmented sleep relates to yet another disease. This time, the relationship of sleep apnea and osteoporosis in women and elderly men.”

Dr. Freydberg continues, “A patient with sleep apnea is 2.7 times as likely to have osteoporosis than a person without sleep apnea. The study sample is very large, and the time period studied very appropriate. Those are the studies I can trust more than many with small samples.”  Dr. Barry Freydberg also instructs and mentors fellow dentists on implementing a Sleep Protocol.
