The dental sleep medicine expert co-authors a dental resolution, unanimously passed to become AGD policy.
Sleep Group Solutions instructor, Dr. Jeffrey Horowitz co-authors resolution with the AGD. This significant resolution supports the community of dentists treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
The lack of adequate screening and appropriate therapy in the area of Obstructive Sleep Apnea are unprecedented in terms of the burden it imposes on our health care system and public health in general. Dr. Jeffrey Horowitz, a dental sleep medicine expert, and Sleep Group Solutions instructor, issued a statement supporting dentists who are willing to work in conjunction with the medical community. “ This puts the AGD and dentists at the forefront of improving wellness in the US and Canada.” Says Dr. Horowitz.
Many medical and dental boards are at odds over the issue of the dentists role in helping to screen and treat OSA in conjunction with medical oversight. “It is imperative that our leaders have written policy to fall back on for meetings, debates and press inquiries.” says Dr. Horowitz.
Certain medical and medical specialty boards have begun issuing statements condemning dentist’s involvement in this field, despite current research and endorsement from the primary medical association for sleep related medicine, the AASM. “With these statements being issued it is absolutely necessary that we have an official policy that are not in conflict with the research/ public policies of the AASM/AADSM.” Dr. Horowitz’s resolution will help the dental sleep medicine tremendously.
